Summer Quarterly Free Book Discussion

Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 6:30-8:00 PM ET
via Zoom

The Guild for Spiritual Guidance invites you to join us for a free and enlightening discussion of the acclaimed book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants  by Robin Wall Kimmerer – In her own words, botanist, professor, and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Robin Wall Kimmerer explains “The sweetgrass plant is understood as the hair of Mother Earth… And just as we braid the hair of someone that we love to care for them, our people braid Sweetgrass as a representation of our care for Mother Earth.  One strand of the braid in this book is Indigenous knowledge and traditional environmental thinking about plants from the Native perspective… Another strand is scientific knowledge about plants, and then there’s that third strand that makes up the beautiful braid… the knowledge that the plants themselves hold – not what we can learn about plants, but what we can learn from plants.”

You may wish to purchase Braiding Sweetgrass from Bookshop.org (using the link in the box below) where your purchase will support both the Guild and independent bookstores, or you can buy from your favorite bookshop, or borrow from your local library.

Your hosts: Bernice Marie-Daly, AP III and Leslye Colvin AP XXII
