Merton said, “To live well myself is my first and essential contribution ot the well being of all mankind and to the fulfillment of man’s collective identity.” Yes, his language is from the fifties, but his spirit and message and challenge abides with us. We will live into the Process of Sacred Philanthropy. In living well, in living out our high calling, in being faithful to God, others, earth—we are commanded to love not in word alone, but in deed and in truth. So that means rooting our use of money deeply in our own Passions—those causes we care most about. Those causes seared into our souls.
While we will reference fundraising—maybe, especially, Nouwen’s The Spirituality of Fund Raising—this time allows each of us to reflect on and commit ourselves out of our own deepest, Spirit driven priorities.
So, we will start with—Passions, then move to Partners, explore Process, examine how to evaluate Projects and end with Pondering/Partying/Praying.
